Comprehensive, Age-Appropriate Care for Young Adults Facing Mental Health or Substance Use Challenges
Young adulthood (ages 18-26) is one of the more challenging and pivotal phases of life. It's a time of searching for direction, weighing countless options, and looking for purpose. In an ever-changing world, with technology advancing quickly, young adults may find their skills outdated and can become disillusioned and stressed about the future. These years are marked by significant transitions – navigating college or vocational training, embarking on a career, establishing independence, forming new relationships, and shaping one's identity. While exciting, these milestones can also bring immense pressure, unexpected challenges, and profound emotional shifts.
A trying time in young adulthood may cause an individual to turn to drugs or alcohol as a means of numbing feelings of fear or uncertainty.
For some, these pressures can lead to or exacerbate underlying mental health conditions or substance use issues, creating overwhelming obstacles to a healthy future.
That's why LifeSync Malibu has meticulously designed specialized Young Adult Treatment Programs tailored specifically for individuals aged 18 to 26. We are dedicated to providing the precise support and therapeutic environment needed for this unique developmental stage.
Crucially, LifeSync Malibu offers distinct and dedicated treatment pathways for mental health challenges and substance use disorders. We firmly believe that focused care leads to optimal outcomes. Therefore, our drug treatment programs for young adults and alcohol treatment programs for young adults are delivered in an entirely separate, specialized facility from our young adult mental health residential treatment. This essential separation ensures a therapeutic environment free from cross-influences, allowing each program to concentrate entirely on its respective healing process with utmost effectiveness. When you choose LifeSync Malibu, you receive dedicated care in the right setting, specifically designed for your unique needs.

- Difficulty Adjusting to Life Transitions: Struggles often arise when moving away from home, starting college, navigating career choices, forming new relationships, or adapting to other significant life changes.
- Academic or Career Pressure: Overwhelm, burnout, and performance issues can severely impact educational or professional pursuits.
- Identity Struggles & Self-Esteem Issues: Challenges in defining oneself, experiencing low self-worth, and grappling with body image concerns are common and addressed here.
- Grief and Loss: Coping with significant loss during a critical developmental period can be particularly impactful and requires specialized support.

What to Expect
How to Talk to Someone About Their Mental Health
If you notice the troubling signs of mental health disturbance in a loved one, it is important to approach them in a sensitive manner. You truly want to help them, so these helpful tips can help when starting a conversation about mental health.
- Be a good listener. It may be hard to hear about the struggles the person is having, but do your best to tune in and listen. Resist the temptation to offer empty platitudes or to dismiss their concerns. Be present during the chat and ask how you can best support them. If there is any mention of suicidal thoughts, you will need to stay close by and to reach out for help.
- Refrain from judgment. Helping someone who is suffering from a mental health crisis is not easy. They may not be in their right mind, and may say things that are hurtful or disturbing. Try not to take it personally or to judge the person. Instead, offer your loving support.
- Be patient. It can be exhausting living with someone who is struggling with mental health issues. The symptoms can be very difficult to witness or to be on the other end of. Resist getting angry, and instead practice patience as you attempt to help them get the help they need.
- Encourage them to get treatment. If you believe your loved one is in need of psychological help, do your best to persuade them to seek it out. They may think they can’t afford treatment, so offer to check their insurance coverage for them. Also, they may feel better if you would go with them to their initial assessment.
- Learn about the disorder. To be of any help to a loved one struggling with mental illness, you will need to become informed. If you suspect they are depressed, learn about the symptoms and treatment for depression. This goes for any mental health disorder you believe is present.
